Devdas is one of the greatest love stories of all time.
Devadas is a Bengali novel written by Sri Saratchandra Chatterji, popularly known as 'Sarat'. Many a novel written by him was immortalized by the extraordinary translation into Telugu by many stalwarts, particularly 'Chakrapani'. Chakrapani is the pen name of Sri Aluri Subba Rao.
Akkineni Nageswara Rao played as Devadas who loses his childhood love Parvathi (Savitri) and eventually gives up his life drinking alcohol.
Akkineni Nageswara Rao got the super stardom with this movie.
In 1974, superstar Krishna remade another version of Devadasu under his own Padmalaya Banner with Vijaya Nirmala as the director and Arudra as the writer. Irked by this, ANR got his Devadasu (of 1953) re-released simultaneously. Though superiorly made in color by Krishna, the film acted by ANR became a rage once again, leaving Krishna's Devadasu far behind in the race. Krishnas devadasu ran for 50 days on the otherhand the re-released Anr's Devadasu ran for 200 days...
The songs in this film are popular even today.
'Jagame Maayaa', 'Palleku Podam .. Paarunu Choodaam', 'Kudi Edamaithe' are the few unforgettable songs from devadasu.
